The Pay Limit Scheme allows foreign nationals to obtain a work permit if they have a job offer with an annual salary of at least DKK 552,000 (2026 level). The salary threshold is adjusted annually. Eligible salary components include cash salary, pension contributions, and paid holiday allowance. The permit is granted for the duration of the employment contract, up to 4 years. Holders receive a 6-month job-seeking permit upon employment ending. Application is processed by SIRI.

Must have a concrete job offer from a Danish employer with an annual salary of at least DKK 552,000 (2026 level). Employment terms must meet Danish standards for holidays, notice periods, and working conditions.

How to apply

Document gathering
Obtain signed employment contract or job offer from Danish employer, prepare passport copies (all pages), and educational/professional documentation.

Online application
Create a case order ID on the SIRI website and complete the work permit application form online.

Fee payment
Pay the DKK 6,810 application fee through the case order system.

Biometrics
Record biometrics (facial photo and fingerprints) within 14 days of application at a Danish diplomatic mission or SIRI branch office.

Document submission
Submit case order ID and all required documentation at the Danish diplomatic mission or SIRI.

Processing wait
Wait for processing. Standard time is 1-3 months depending on completeness of application.

Visa collection
Receive decision. If approved, a long-stay visa (Type D) is issued to enter Denmark and collect biometric residence card.
