Holders of certain countries' diplomatic or service passports may be exempt from the visa requirement, even if visas are normally required for ordinary passport holders. Contact the IND Short Stay Visa Service for specific exemptions. Diplomatic staff at missions receive a separate Diplomatic Identification Card rather than a standard visa.

  • Invitation letter

    Host requirements: Note Verbale from the sending government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or diplomatic mission, stating the purpose of the visit and the official capacity of the traveler

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Prepare Note Verbale through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or diplomatic mission.

  2. Document submission

    Submit visa application with Note Verbale and diplomatic passport at the Dutch embassy/consulate.

  3. Processing wait

    Processing can take up to 4 weeks as consultation with other Schengen countries may be required.

  4. Visa collection

    Collect passport with visa sticker from the embassy/consulate.
