Non-EU/EEA nationals studying in Lithuania for more than 90 days must obtain a National Visa (D) and apply for a Temporary Residence Permit before arriving. The higher education institution must submit a mediation letter electronically through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS). For the first year, students typically apply for the national D visa and then apply for a residence permit for subsequent years while legally in the country. Students may work up to 20 hours per week during term-time and full-time during university holidays without a separate work permit. If the visa is refused, an appeal can be lodged within 14 days of the decision. Application deadlines for non-EU/EFTA students are typically May 1 for September intake at Lithuanian universities.
