For highly skilled third-country nationals with university degrees or equivalent qualifications. Minimum gross annual salary requirement lowered to €58,968 in 2025. Luxembourg now allows 3 years of relevant professional experience in IT or managerial roles to substitute for formal academic qualifications. EU Blue Card holders from other member states can work in Luxembourg for up to 90 days without additional permits, and can relocate permanently with simplified procedures. Family reunification is possible immediately without a waiting period. Pathway to permanent residency available.

How to apply

  1. Online application

    Employer applies for temporary authorisation to stay (EU Blue Card) from the Immigration Directorate.

  2. Document gathering

    Gather employment contract, degree certificates or proof of 3 years experience, credential evaluation, CV, insurance, and accommodation proof.

  3. Processing wait

    Wait for temporary authorisation approval.

  4. Appointment booking

    Once authorisation is approved, apply for Type D visa at Luxembourg embassy/consulate.

  5. Document submission

    Submit all documents and attend interview.

  6. Visa collection

    Collect EU Blue Card visa. Register at commune within 3 days of arrival, undergo medical examination, and apply for residence permit within 90 days.
