Nationals of Annex I countries under EU Regulation 2018/1806 must obtain a Schengen visa before travel to Portugal. The standard fee is EUR 80 for adults, EUR 40 for children aged 6-11, and free for children under 6. An additional VFS service fee of approximately EUR 40 may apply. Applications can be submitted up to 6 months before the intended trip. Apply at the Portuguese embassy/consulate or authorized VFS Global visa application centre.

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Gather all required documents: valid passport, completed application form, 2 passport photos, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, return flight booking, bank statements (last 3 months), employment letter with salary, and proof of funds.

  2. Appointment booking

    Book an appointment at the Portuguese embassy/consulate or the authorized VFS Global visa application centre in your country of residence.

  3. Document submission

    Attend your appointment in person. Submit all required documents and the completed application form. Originals and photocopies are typically required.

  4. Biometrics

    Provide biometric data (10 fingerprints and digital photograph) at the visa application centre. Biometrics are stored for 59 months and may be reused from a previous Schengen visa application within that period.

  5. Fee payment

    Pay the visa application fee of EUR 80 (adults) and any applicable VFS service fee (~EUR 40). Children aged 6-11 pay EUR 40. Children under 6 are exempt.

  6. Processing wait

    Wait for visa processing. Standard processing takes 15 calendar days from submission. In some cases, processing may take up to 45 days. Apply at least 15 days before travel and up to 6 months in advance.

  7. Visa collection

    Collect your passport with the visa decision from the embassy/consulate or VFS centre, or opt for courier return if available.
