All persons traveling on official business in possession of an official or diplomatic passport must obtain a visa at a Chilean embassy or consulate before traveling to or through Chile. If holding a diplomatic/official passport but traveling for tourism, a tourist passport should be presented upon arrival as authorities will not grant a tourist visa or Tourist Card with a diplomatic/official passport. Applicants must apply in person and start the application at least 30 days before intended travel.

How to apply

  1. Online application

    Start the visa application online through the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs website at least 30 days before intended travel.

  2. Document gathering

    Prepare diplomatic or official passport (valid 6+ months), official invitation or assignment letter, cover letter explaining purpose of visit.

  3. Appointment booking

    Schedule in-person appointment at Chilean embassy or consulate. In-person application is mandatory for diplomatic/official visas.

  4. Document submission

    Submit application and all documents in person at Chilean embassy or consulate.

  5. Processing wait

    Wait for visa processing. Minimum 30 days processing time required.

  6. Visa collection

    Collect diplomatic/official visa from embassy or consulate. No fee charged.
