Primary residency permit for foreign employees working in Kuwait's private companies. Operates under kafala (sponsorship) system where employee's legal status is tied directly to employer. Employer must be registered with Public Authority for Manpower to sponsor foreign workers. Workers from Bangladesh and Pakistan undergo additional medical screening at GAMCA/WAFID approved centers.

  • Health

    Must pass medical examination including HIV/AIDS test and show no contagious diseases.

    Required vaccinations: HIV/AIDS test, general health screening

  • Criminal record

    Must provide police clearance certificate showing no criminal record. Serious criminal records may result in denial.

  • Employment

    Must have valid employment contract signed by Kuwaiti employer. Employer must be registered with Public Authority for Manpower. Employee's legal status tied to employer under kafala (sponsorship) system.

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Gather required documents: valid passport with 24 months validity, employment contract signed by employer, medical certificate including HIV/AIDS test, police clearance certificate, educational qualifications and professional certificates, completed visa application form.

  2. Document submission

    Employer initiates work permit application through Ministry of Interior. Submit all required documents including employment contract, medical certificate, police clearance.

  3. Fee payment

    Pay work visa and residency permit fees totaling 150 KWD.

  4. Processing wait

    Wait for work permit and visa approval. Processing typically takes 4-8 weeks total.

  5. Visa collection

    Once visa is approved, collect visa from Kuwait embassy/consulate for entry to Kuwait. After arrival, complete residency permit (Iqama) process.
