    Must engage in artistic activities (composing, painting, sculpting, photography, writing, etc.) as a profession. Must demonstrate ability to earn a living through such activities.

Documents you need

    Blank pages required: 2; Validity months: 12

  • Photo

    Count: 1; Specifications: 45mm x 45mm, white background, taken within 6 months

  • Proof of funds

    Accepted forms: Portfolio of work, exhibition history, publication credits, contracts, gallery representation, income records; Minimum amount: Sufficient to sustain livelihood through artistic activities

  • Curriculum vitae

    Provide a current CV showing education, work history and relevant qualifications.

  • Certificate of

    Issuing authority: Immigration Services Agency of Japan; Residence status: Artist; Validity months: 3

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Prepare portfolio, CV, exhibition/publication history, contracts, and financial documentation.

  2. Processing wait

    Apply for COE at Regional Immigration Bureau. Processing 1-3 months.

  3. Document submission

    Apply for visa at Japanese Embassy/Consulate with COE.

  4. Fee payment

    Pay visa fee of approximately 3,000 JPY.

  5. Visa collection

    Collect visa and enter Japan.
