National Visa D for students enrolled or accepted at an Austrian university, Fachhochschule, or other recognized educational institution. Valid for stays of 91 days to 6 months. After arrival in Austria, students must register with municipal authorities (Meldeamt) within 3 working days and then apply for a Residence Permit - Student (Aufenthaltsbewilligung Studierende) for stays beyond 6 months. The residence permit costs EUR 160 and is valid for 12 months, renewable with proof of academic progress (minimum 16 ECTS per academic year). Students may work up to 20 hours per week.

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

  3. Appointment booking

    Book an appointment at the Austrian embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

  4. Fee payment

    Pay the Visa D application fee of approximately EUR 150.

  5. Document submission
