Nationals of Annex II countries under EU Regulation 2018/1806 may enter Romania and the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Romania became a full Schengen member on January 1, 2025 (land borders) following air/sea borders opening March 31, 2024. ETIAS pre-travel authorization (EUR 7) will be required from Q4 2026. The EES (Entry/Exit System) began operations on October 12, 2025. Holders of valid Schengen visas issued by other member states may also enter Romania.

  • Purpose of visit

    Visit must be for tourism, business meetings, family visits, or other short-stay purposes. Not permitted to engage in paid employment.
