Foreign media personnel on short-term assignments (up to 60 days) that are not sponsored by a Singapore government agency must apply for a Miscellaneous Work Pass (MWP) from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). The application must be submitted by a Singapore-based sponsor such as a registered company, society, or event organiser. Foreign journalists cannot apply directly. The MWP has a strict 60-day limit that cannot be extended. Additionally, journalists from visa-required countries must also obtain a separate entry visa.

    For short-term media assignments not supported or sponsored by a Singapore government agency. Government-sponsored media assignments follow a different process through MDDI.

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Prepare passport copy, press credentials, assignment details, and employer letter. Identify a Singapore-based sponsor.

  2. Online application

    Singapore-based sponsor submits the MWP application via MOM's Work Pass Online system.

  3. Fee payment

    Sponsor pays SGD 175 application fee.

  4. Processing wait

    Wait up to 8 weeks for processing by MOM.

  5. Visa collection

    If approved, MWP notification is issued. Journalists from visa-required countries must also separately apply for an entry visa via SAVE.
