Family reunification allows spouses, registered partners, minor children (under 18), and other dependent family members to join a third-country national legally residing in Slovenia with a valid residence permit. The sponsor must have held a valid residence permit for at least 1 year and demonstrate adequate income (minimum social assistance level) and accommodation. Family members receive a temporary residence permit that allows them to work in Slovenia. Under the Slovenian Foreigners Act, family reunification is processed through the local Administrative Unit (Upravna enota).

Eligibility

  • Nationality

    Third-country nationals who are spouses, registered partners, minor unmarried children (under 18), or other dependent family members of a person legally residing in Slovenia with a valid residence permit held for at least 1 year.

  • Financial

    Sponsor must demonstrate stable income at or above the minimum social assistance level per family member.

  • Health

    Must have adequate health insurance.

  • Criminal record

    Must have no criminal record.

How to apply

  1. Document gathering

    Gather passport, photos, marriage/birth certificates (apostilled and translated), sponsor's residence permit copy, financial proof, accommodation proof, health insurance, and police clearance.

  2. Online application

    File residence permit application for family reunification at the local Administrative Unit (Upravna enota) in Slovenia. Can be filed by the sponsor or the applicant at a Slovenian embassy.

  3. Processing wait

    Administrative Unit processes the application. Processing typically up to 30 days.

  4. Appointment booking

    Book appointment at the Slovenian embassy or consulate for Visa D.

  5. Fee payment

    Pay Visa D fee and residence permit application fee.

  6. Document submission

    Submit Visa D application at the embassy with the residence permit approval.

  7. Biometrics

    Provide biometric data at the embassy or consulate.

  8. Visa collection
