Nationals of Annex II countries under EU Regulation 2018/1806 may enter Slovenia and the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS pre-travel authorization (EUR 7) will be required from late 2026. The EES (Entry/Exit System) began operations on October 12, 2025. Serbia exception: holders of passports issued by the Serbian Coordination Directorate are not visa-exempt. Visitors must register with the police within 3 days of arrival (usually done automatically by accommodation providers).

Standard Schengen Type C visa for tourism purposes. Nationals of Annex I countries under EU Regulation 2018/1806 must apply at the Slovenian embassy or consulate, or at a VFS Global center where Slovenia is represented. Where Slovenia has no diplomatic representation, applications may be submitted at the embassy of another Schengen state with which Slovenia has a representation agreement. Applications may be submitted 6 months to 15 days before travel. Multiple-entry visas with longer validity may be issued for frequent travelers.

EU, EEA and Swiss nationals have full freedom of movement within Slovenia. No visa or residence permit required for any duration. Right to live and work freely. Citizens of certain countries benefit from reduced Schengen visa fees of EUR 35 due to visa facilitation agreements between the EU and these countries. Same documentary requirements as standard Schengen visa. Note: EU visa facilitation agreements with Russia and Belarus have been suspended for Russian and Belarusian diplomatic/service passport holders, though the reduced fee may still apply for ordinary passport holders depending on current EU Council decisions. Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia) are already visa-free under Annex II.
