Short-stay visa for medical treatment (cure mediche) at Italian healthcare facilities. Issued for the period necessary to complete treatments, up to 90 days. For treatments exceeding 90 days, a Type D national visa is required. An accompanying person may also apply for a visa.

Eligibility

• Nationality

  Must be a national of an Annex I country requiring a Schengen visa.

• Financial

  Must prove ability to pay full treatment costs, accommodation, and repatriation expenses.

  Minimum funds: Full treatment costs plus living expenses

• Health

  Must have accepted treatment plan from an accredited Italian healthcare facility. Must provide 30% deposit of estimated treatment costs or have authorization under humanitarian programs.

How to apply

1. Document gathering

   Secure acceptance letter and treatment plan from the Italian healthcare facility. Pay 30% deposit of estimated treatment costs and obtain certificate confirming deposit.

2. Online application

   Fill out the Schengen visa application form selecting 'Medical Treatment' as purpose.

3. Appointment booking

   Schedule appointment at Italian consulate/embassy or VFS Global center.

4. Fee payment

   Pay EUR 90 visa fee at time of submission.

5. Document submission

   Submit all documents including medical facility letter, deposit certificate, financial proof, and insurance.

6. Biometrics

   Provide fingerprints and photograph if not collected within the last 59 months.

7. Processing wait

   Standard processing 15 calendar days, may extend to 45 days.

8. Visa collection

   Collect passport with visa sticker.
