Citizens of EU, EEA, and Swiss Confederation countries have the right of free movement and residence within Italy and all Schengen member states. No visa or entry permit required. Duration of stay is unlimited with valid national ID card or passport.

Citizens of Annex II countries (EU Regulation 2018/1806) may enter Italy and the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business meetings, family visits, and other short-stay purposes. ETIAS authorization will be required once the system becomes operational (expected Q4 2026). UK citizens included post-Brexit. Kosovo (XK) granted visa-free access from January 2024. Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan included with biometric passport requirement.

Standard Schengen short-stay visa for tourism. Fee is EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-12, free for children under 6. Reduced fee of EUR 35 applies to citizens of countries with EU visa facilitation agreements (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, Albania). Processing time is typically 15 calendar days but may extend to 45 days in complex cases. Multiple-entry visas may be issued for frequent travelers with good visa history. Apply at Italian consulate/embassy or authorized VFS Global visa application center.
