Nationals from eligible countries who do not qualify for visa exemption may obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at designated international airports and land border checkpoints. The VOA permits a stay of up to 15 days and generally cannot be extended. Thailand expanded the VOA program from 19 to 31 countries in July 2024. Note: Several countries originally on the VOA list were subsequently upgraded to the 93-country visa-exempt list (e.g., Bhutan, Bulgaria, China, Cyprus, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Russia). The remaining VOA-only countries are listed here. The fee of THB 2,000 is payable in Thai Baht only.

Journalists from visa-exempt countries covering short-term events (international conferences, sporting events, breaking news) may enter Thailand under the standard visa exemption for up to 60 days. For extended media work, filming projects, or assignments requiring a Work Permit, a Non-Immigrant M visa is required. Short-term media assignments can also use a Non-Immigrant B (Business) visa. The distinction between short-term coverage and work requiring a visa/Work Permit can be ambiguous; journalists should consult the Thai embassy or the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand.

Thailand grants visa exemption for up to 60 days to passport holders from 93 countries and territories. Effective since 15 July 2024, the previous 30-day exemption was extended to 60 days for most countries. Visitors may apply for a single 30-day extension at a local Thai Immigration office for a fee of THB 1,900, for a total possible stay of 90 days. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival. Proof of onward travel and proof of adequate funds (10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family) may be requested. From 1 May 2025, all travelers must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at least 72 hours before arrival.

The Non-Immigrant Visa M (Media) is for foreign journalists, reporters, correspondents, film producers, and media professionals working in Thailand for 90+ days. The applicant must be affiliated with a credible media entity registered for at least 6 months, work solely as a media professional, discharge media duties for a minimum of 90 days, and produce at least 12 pieces of content per year about Thailand. Application requires registration with the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the MMOS (MFA Media Online Service). If approved, the journalist receives a visa, work permit, and press card valid for up to 12 months. Short-term media assignments can use a Non-Immigrant B visa instead. The Non-Immigrant O-X visa is a 10-year long-stay visa for retirees aged 50+ from 14 specific countries. The visa is issued for 5 years initially and renewable for another 5 years. Higher financial requirements apply compared to the O-A visa. Applicants must maintain a Thai bank deposit of THB 3 million, or a deposit of THB 1.8 million combined with annual income of THB 1.2 million. Travelers who remain within the international transit zone at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK) and have a connecting flight departing within 12 hours generally do not need a visa or transit permit. Citizens of Pakistan are required to obtain a visa when transiting through Thailand at all times.
