Official visas are issued to foreign government officials, employees of international organizations, and other individuals traveling to Thailand on official business. Courtesy visas may be granted to diplomatic/official/UN/ordinary passport holders entering as guests of the Thai government or government agency. Both are typically free of charge and processed through diplomatic channels. Official visa holders may be required to obtain a work permit if they will be working in Thailand.

Diplomatic Visa Category 'D' is granted to diplomatic or UN Laissez-Passer (Red Cover) passport holders who wish to assume duties at a foreign Diplomatic Mission, Consulate, or International Organization in Thailand. It is issued free of charge and valid for multiple entries. Holders are exempt from certain immigration requirements including work permits. Many countries have bilateral agreements with Thailand allowing diplomatic/official passport holders visa-free entry for 30-90 days. Extensions are handled through the Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Diplomatic Visa Category 'F' is for short-term official visits by diplomatic passport holders.
