The Non-Immigrant Visa ED (Education) is for foreign nationals studying at approved Thai educational institutions, including universities, language schools, vocational schools, Muay Thai training schools, and religious institutions. Initial 90-day stay, extendable in 90-day increments up to 1 year, as long as enrollment continues. Students must attend at least 70% of classes (2025 rule). From 2025, institutions must electronically report student enrollment status to Immigration. A new ED PLUS visa allows bachelor's degree students and above to re-enter without re-entry permit and extend stay for 1 year after graduation to seek employment. Students are not permitted to work unless they hold a separate Work Permit for internships.

Open to all foreign nationals accepted at a Thai educational institution. Note: Applicants from Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, and Middle Eastern countries must apply at a Thai Embassy/Consulate in their home/residential country.

Full-time study at an approved Thai educational institution (university, school, language school, vocational school, Muay Thai school, or religious institution). Training programs and internships may also qualify.

Must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses. Must have paid at least 50% of total course costs.

How to apply

Document gathering
Gather: passport, photo, acceptance letter from Thai educational institution, proof of enrollment, school registration documents (including Ministry of Education license number), evidence of funds, and police clearance (if course is 1+ year).
