Nationals from eligible countries who do not qualify for visa exemption may obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at designated international airports and land border checkpoints. The VOA permits a stay of up to 15 days and generally cannot be extended. Thailand expanded the VOA program from 19 to 31 countries in July 2024. Note: Several countries originally on the VOA list were subsequently upgraded to the 93-country visa-exempt list (e.g., Bhutan, Bulgaria, China, Cyprus, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Russia). The remaining VOA-only countries are listed here. The fee of THB 2,000 is payable in Thai Baht only.

Thailand grants visa exemption for up to 60 days to passport holders from 93 countries and territories. Effective since 15 July 2024, the previous 30-day exemption was extended to 60 days for most countries. Visitors may apply for a single 30-day extension at a local Thai Immigration office for a fee of THB 1,900, for a total possible stay of 90 days. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival. Proof of onward travel and proof of adequate funds (10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family) may be requested. From 1 May 2025, all travelers must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at least 72 hours before arrival.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) was launched in July 2024 and is designed for digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and participants in Thai soft-power activities. It is a multi-entry visa valid for 5 years. Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days, extendable once for an additional 180 days per entry. Eligible activities include remote work for a foreign employer, medical treatment, Muay Thai training, Thai cooking classes, sport training, seminars, and music festivals. The DTV does not permit employment with a Thai company.

The Special Tourist Visa (STV) was introduced for long-stay tourists. It allows an initial stay of 90 days, extendable twice (each extension is 90 days for THB 1,900 each), for a maximum total stay of 270 days. The STV requires a minimum stay intention of 90 days and proof of accommodation for the full 90-day period. Higher financial requirements than standard tourist visas apply.

The Single-Entry Tourist Visa (TR) allows a stay of up to 60 days per entry and is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. It can be extended once at a Thai Immigration office for an additional 30 days (fee: THB 1,900), allowing a maximum stay of 90 days total. This visa is suitable for travelers from countries that are not eligible for visa exemption or who wish to stay longer than the visa-exempt period. Applications are submitted online via the Thailand e-Visa system. Thailand fully adopted e-Visa from 1 January 2025.

Under bilateral ASEAN agreements, nationals of Laos, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam may enter Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. Note that Vietnam and Laos are also listed in the 93-country visa exemption scheme with 60-day stays; the more favorable 60-day allowance generally applies for air arrivals. Land border entries may still default to the bilateral 30-day arrangement depending on the checkpoint.

Nationals of Argentina, Chile, South Korea, and Peru are permitted to stay for up to 90 days per visit under bilateral agreements with Thailand. South Korean and Japanese citizens may also benefit from 90-day stays under separate bilateral arrangements. The same entry requirements apply as the standard 60-day visa exemption (valid passport, proof of funds, return ticket), but the permitted stay is 90 days instead of 60.
